🧶 Knitting at 32,000 feet ✈️
Writing this newsletter at the ATL airport enroute from the beach to TUL. Right now, if it can’t be knit at 32,000 feet, it’s not going on my needles.I’ve always loved “airplane knitting” - the portable, meditative projects that don’t require a lot of concentration…(read: can be worked while sipping a Delta bloody mary and munching a tiny pack of almonds)Don’t get me wrong. I love a good yarny challenge and usually have a more complex colorwork project in the works. But these days, I spend so much time up in the air, it really makes no sense to cast...
🧶Making peace with your yarn
“Wispy Haze” shawl in custom colorway “Cayanne’s Wedding” This week I finished one of the most joyful projects I’ve ever made…But it didn’t start out that way.My niece Cayanne was married this weekend in the Bahamas.I wasn’t there, but I can imagine how stunning she looked walking along that Bahamian blue water, wrapping herself up in a shawl that’s a color somewhere between the ocean and her eyes.About six months ago, when I received the invite to Cayanne + Cory’s wedding, I was simultaneously overjoyed and very sad…Because unbeknownst to the happy couple, my husband and I had decided to divorce....
🧶An extra-special hat
Last week we told you about our project manager Sunnie and her Noodlyknits Hat Drive benefiting patients at the cancer treatment hospital her uncle runs in Gwangju, South Korea. Now it’s true, the usual thing when making for charity is to use a basic pattern and stash yarn and knock them out “on repeat”…But what if you made ONE extra-special hat? A hat imbued with meaning in a beautiful yarn and fun, engaging pattern, that’s every bit as much fun to make as it is to give away? Knit Star Jennifer Berg “dreamt up The Peaceful People Hat as I was...
🧶Did I ever tell you you’re my hero
Make the Ena Pullover with our exclusive colors of LolaBean Cool Beans Sport. It’s a funny thing… As makers, sometimes we get so busy making things, we don’t even realize how much impact we’re having on the wider world. Our amazing readers helped make a heroic difference last week - and at first I didn’t even know it! “Thanks to the newsletter, the Ena Pullover is now the third most popular pattern on Ravelry,” Loretta alerted me earlier this week. “And the designer has put the pattern on sale. So, while we did not dedicate proceeds of the bag to a...
🌟You’ve earned it
This week I’ve been thinking a lot about what it means to “deserve” something. Here’s why. Tomorrow is the last chance to sign up for our 7th Masterclass Event called Texture + Wonder. And all week, I’ve been in the comments online, listening as knitters and crocheters all over the world angst over whether to invest in themselves and the craft they love so much.“But what if I’m not good enough yet?”“But what if I don’t finish all the workshops?”“But what will my spouse/kids/parents say?”Listen. If you’re reading this... You. Have. A. Superpower. You did the work - the vulnerable, hard work - to learn...
🧶How did I get here?
CLICK HERE to listen to an audio version of this newsletter These days we’re all moving so fast…Many of us live in such a constant state of fight or flight, we actually become accustomed to fighting against what’s possible. When challenges pop up, we tell ourselves “I can’t” over and over. And then one day, we forget all our reasons for why we can’t do it. All of a sudden, we find ourselves doing the thing. We’re like, “Wait a minute! What’s going on? How did I get here?”It’s a beautiful transformation, to find yourself in a place...
