Quince Kestrel

Kestrel is a new take on a simple linen yarn. It is the same Belgium-grown organic linen that is used in Sparrow and spun this time in a ribbon structure. Kestrel knits up quickly at 3 to 4 stitches to the inch. Its flat surface adds a slight texture to simple knit and purl stitches. But we think the best thing about it is its incredible drape. Like all things linen, woven or knitted, Kestrel only gets better as you wash and wear it.

Our lovely Carla made Leila Raven's "Deschain" - a spring-to-fall favorite with striking textured lace. Designed with plenty of ease for a relaxed fit, this cropped boxy pullover is worked flat and then seamed, with slim sleeves picked up and worked in the round down to the cuff. You'll need 7 (9, 11, 13, 14, 16, 17) skeins for finished sizes 54¼ (60, 65¾, 71½, 77¼, 82¾, 88½)" - designed to be worn with 16-22" positive ease. Size US 10 ½ - 24" circular needles recommended.

We also love Elizabeth Smith's "Mira" - a great layering piece for year-round. The oversized shape and relaxed gauge aim for maximum drape, which is then compounded by eyelets and garter stitch. There’s very little shaping in this piece, making for a relaxing knit. You'll need 6 (8, 9, 11) skeins for finished sizes 54 (60¾, 66, 72¾)" - designed to be worn with 16-24" positive ease. Size US 10 ½ - 32" circular needles recommended.

Shelley made the “Ellis” tank by the Quince & Co. design team. This is a great beginner garment, with some “Yarnover short rows” at the beginning(there's a tutorial to help you out on QuinceandCo.com). You’ll need 5 (5, 6, 6, 7, 7, 8, 9, 9, 10, 11, 11) skeins of your main color and 1 skein of your contrast color for finished sizes 29 (32, 35, 38, 41, 44, 47, 50, 53, 56, 59, 62)" 73.5 (81.5, 89, 96.5, 104, 112, 119.5, 127, 134.5, 142, 150, 157.5) cm] - shown in size 35” with 2” negative ease. Size US 9 -  32” circular needles recommended.

Mitzi made Heidi Kirrmaier’s “Flex” tee with Kestrel, too! For this one, you’ll need 6 (7, 8, 9, 10, 11) skeins of Kestrel, a 24-32” circular US 9 needle, and a 40-50” US 9 needle.

Kate made “Elorie” by Elizabeth Doherty in the 2nd size with 10 skeins of Kestrel in colorway “Minos.”
