Dyed by Hand Silk Stocking
Introduced to textiles at an early age, Julie of Hand Dyed Yarns has been expanding her knowledge and skills ever since. In 2012 she decided to start dyeing yarn-the rest is history.
As a former medical scientist, Julie played with dyes daily and has honed her skills of observation, theory and practise in dyeing processes. Dissatisfied with the yarns available at the time, the decision to dye yarn was a natural progression for her. Family and friends encouraged her to present her yarn for sale and Dyed By Hand Yarns was born.
Since moving to a rural property in East Gippsland Julie has been influenced by nature and the unique effect of the Australian sun on colours. Using professional dyes and various dyeing techniques she creates small batches of hand dyed yarn for your crafting adventures.
"Most of my colour inspiration comes from the world around us: from observation as well as photos and online resources. Other ideas come from songs, movies, literature, the changing seasons and especially Australiana. I am constantly fascinated by the way that the Australian sunlight influences how we see color here - clear, bright, bold and mysterious."
For our March pop-up shop, we chose Silk Stocking, 50% superwash merino/50% silk 100g/400m/438yd and Julie suggested a collaboration with Ambah O'Brien, a fellow Aussie!
